Why do you compete in triathlons?
I compete in triathlons because I love to swim in the pool, ride my bike and run around. After seeing my mom compete in her first one, I was ready to give it a try myself. What is your favorite leg of a triathlon? My favorite is the swim. I have been swimming for 6 years on the Goodyear Sharks Swim Team and that experience has taught me proper technique and how to push thru the swim even when I am tired. In how many triathlons have you competed? The 2009 Estrella Multi-Sport Kid's Triathlon will be my 5th triathlon. I have competed in the Estrella Multi-Sport Triathlons since the beginning. There were only 40 of us racing in the very first one but we would have practices for them with Teo Beam as our coach. After practice we always went to Elliots Market for a smoothie! What would you say to a first time triathlete? The triathlons aren't about winning. They are about running the best race YOU can run. Each time I race in a triathlon, if I beat my previous time, I am a winner! Any final thoughts? Triathlons have made me realize there are many sports I want to compete in. I never thought I would want to run Cross Country, but I will do that for the first time this year. Also I am hoping triathlons will become an organized sport in high school and college. Either way, it is exciting knowing that I have a sport I can compete in into my 70's. |
